We are delighted to introduce you to Annika Levitt in this Meet The Fundraising Coordinator post! A few facts about her:
Name: Annika Levitt
Title: Teacher
School(s): Kiel-Sisco & Stonybrook schools
Experience With Original Works: 5 Years
Q. How long have you been running the Original Works program at your school?
As soon as I hopped on board and the torch was passed….COVID hit. So the year that I stepped into the spot was 2019. It’s important to note that “the show went on,” and we were still able to get students Original Works complete and to their homes (thanks to the wonderful company).
Q. What was it that interested you in running an Original Works program?
Having had my own two children in district, it was always my fave fundraiser and still smile seeing their artwork in my daily coffee mugs or magnets on the fridge.
Q. In your position as the Teacher, what are some of the biggest challenges you face?
Life is always a balancing act! The “To Dos,” grow each day and the schedules of running around but it’s important to capture the memories and keepsakes.
Q. What do you see as some of the greatest benefits the children receive from participating in the program?
Original Works allows parents and students to display artwork and hold onto a certain time in their lives. It’s a program that can be passed on and they can look at how they’ve grown as an artist and student.
Q. Do you have any particularly memorable experiences you would like to share with others about running the Original Works Program?
The most memorable was figuring out a contactless pick up when the pandemic hit. We lined up all the artwork outside and parents drove by~remember the bday drive by action, we did an artwork one and it felt so good to see people and connect again!
Q. The Original Works programs focus on creativity and self-esteem, while providing a vehicle for raising needed funds. What will your school be doing with the funds you raised from the Original Works program?
Kinnelon Schools uses this fundraiser to help with the many awesome things that our KEHSA (Kinnelon Education Home School Association) provides. Whether it goes towards the spirit nights, supplies or to raise school spirit, Kinnelon is always growing and beatifying their schools.
Q. Do you have anything you would like to share with current Teacher’s or with others who are considering coordinating an Original Works program?
Keep the tradition going and a wonderful shout out to our amazing art teachers: Sona Santagato and Charleen Scully! They continue to influence the lives of young artists each and every day. Also, they are a reason I continue the program as I enjoy collaborating with them
Thank you for sharing your time and perspective with us today, and for all you do to support the children and families at your school.
