“Failure is a detour, not a dead end street.”

~ Zig Zigler

This week we are continuing to explore our outdoor art series. The project for the week changed a few times along the way due to various challenges I encountered, but in the end, we were set to showcase bubble painting.

I gathered all of our supplies …

Next, we mixed a variety of colored bubble solutions, and leaned our canvases against a tree. Then we started to blow bubbles.

This was the result. See anything? If you squint really hard, you can see a faint watercolor paint effect on the canvas. Ugh.

This was probably the fourth failed project for one reason or another for this week. I was frustrated, the kids were frustrated, and I was about to throw my hands up in the air and give up.

One of my boys asked if we could paint with the bubble mixture instead. I didn’t mind since I was going to throw the mixtures out anyway. We traded our bubble wands for foam paint brushes and our canvas for a long roll of paper spread out on the grass.

They loved it. They didn’t care that the colors weren’t vibrant, or that it wasn’t the more elaborate project that I had planned, they just loved being outside, and painting. That was the lesson that I learned:  it doesn’t matter what you go outside and create, just that you get outside and create something.

Hopefully you were a little more successful in your outdoor artistic ventures this week. We would love to hear about your success (or failures!) either in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
