This week we want to introduce you to our Make Department.
This department functions as the hub of our entire manufacturing operation, and is responsible for making and/or performing final assembly on over a dozen different products. It’s safe to say that the pace in Make is, well, brisk!
Product components flow into Make from other departments. The skilled and dedicated members of our Make Team, led by long time employee Nina Thivierge, then spring into action, performing the various tasks necessary to turn these components into the special fundraising products families love to receive.
- For example, Make performs the final assembly work on our entire line of Ornaments, as well as our Matted Prints, and Key Chains.
- A separate book making area is a buzz of activity all day long. Employees in this area punch, assemble, and bind thousands of our popular Scratch Pads, Sketchbooks, and Open Dated Planners for home and office.
-
Did you order a Purse Mirror? If so, then you guessed it … Make is where it was assembled and produced.
Across the floor from Make, is our Press Department. This area produces the majority of our fabric items, including Aprons, Towels, Mouse Pads, Oven Mitts, Pillow Cases, Quilt Blocks and Tote Bags.
The press products are not all pressed at the same temperature or for the same length of time. This means that our pressers not only have to be versatile, but also have to stay focused to ensure we produce each product correctly. Thankfully, we have a great team of experienced pressers who are dedicated to making each child’s artwork look great on all of our fabric items.
Once all of the finished products are complete, they flow back out of Make & Press, organized by product and school. We bin the products, and when everything is ready, we roll the entire school over to our Match Department for inspection and packaging.
Join us next week as we take a tour of our final two departments – Match and Shipping. We look forward to seeing you then!
This wide variety of finished products eventually flows back out of Make, all organized by product and school. We bin the products, and when everything is ready, we roll the school over to our Match Department for inspection and packaging.
